Balanced Beginnings: Mental Wellness For New Moms
You’ve learned ALL the things about your new baby, now it’s time to learn all about the new YOU!
Can you relate?
Hey, new moms!
Your mood + emotions are ALL OVER…
One moment, you’re soaking up baby bliss, and the next, you're totally on edge and snapping at even the tiniest triggers (then… cue the guilt!).
Not to mention the fussing and crying…
The sensory overload of caring for a newborn is leading to major overstimulation but you’re not sure where to turn for support.
You’re drowning under the mental load…
Your to-do list feels endless, all the tracking and timelines are making you so anxious. You’re stuck in constant survival mode.
Your roles and relationships have changed in so many ways …
You’re struggling with this new identity, and some days, you barely recognize yourself.
You’re clashing with your partner A LOT…
You notice you're arguing more and more, but sometimes you can't even pinpoint what triggered your frustration or why you feel so upset.
IT IS NOT JUST YOU…
If any (or all) of these early motherhood challenges resonate with you, you’re not alone. Nearly EVERY new mom faces these struggles.
✺ Here’s the underlying issue:
Most newborn preparation focuses entirely on baby—how to care for and support them. But few women are taught how to care for their OWN emotional and mental well-being. They’re left without guidance on how to manage things like hormone changes, mood swings, sensory overload, overstimulation, intrusive thoughts, and identity shifts.
As a result, many moms feel confused, frustrated, and even inadequate, unsure of where to turn for support…
Which is exactly why I created this course!

Balanced Beginnings:
Mental Wellness for New Moms
PART ONE
Understanding the Mind+Body connection:
You’ve probably heard the term before, but what really is the ‘mind-body’ connection? It’s the idea that our body’s chemistry and biology—like hormones and neurotransmitters—affect our mood and emotions, which then shape our thoughts and behaviors.
This concept is KEY because it helps us make much more sense of our emotions, feelings and the thoughts that pop into our head.
We’ll explore how physical changes—such as hormone shifts and brain changes during pregnancy and postpartum—can influence your emotions, mood, thoughts and behaviors.
LET’S BREAK IT DOWN
Here’s what’s inside:
PART TWO
Hormones and brain changes in pregnancy and postpartum:
If you want to learn to manage your emotions and stay calm and grounded during the most intense parenting moments, it helps to start by understanding some basics about how your nervous system operates.
In this section, we’ll start by focusing on four key hormones in the perinatal period—estrogen, progesterone, oxytocin, and cortisol. You’ll learn how shifts in these hormones can influence your mental state, and when they’re most likely to occur, helping you better anticipate and navigate the ups and downs.
We’ll also dive into the structural changes happening in your brain during this time—why they occur, what purpose they serve, and the challenges they may bring.
Finally, we’ll examine how these changes impact not only your mood and emotions but also your thoughts, perspective, and even your actions.
PART THREE
Skills and strategies to regulate your nervous system and manage intense emotions:
In the last section, we’ll cover three key approaches to regulating your nervous system and managing emotions during even the most challenging moments of early motherhood.
Rather than just walking through breathing exercises or meditations, we’ll explore HOW these tools work and WHY they’re effective. This deeper understanding will help you choose the right techniques for your needs and use them at the right time. We’ll discuss:
Mindful Awareness: Learn to be present and attuned to the state of your nervous system. We’ll explore the concept of your window of tolerance—the range where you can manage stress without slipping into a fight, flight, or freeze mode.
Responding to Acute Stress: Discover practical tools to soothe and calm yourself when you feel activated or on the verge of losing control.
Challenging Unhelpful Thought Patterns: Learn to identify and reframe negative or distorted thoughts that often arise when you’re feeling dysregulated.
hi! i’m dr. jen.
I’m a family medicine doctor, mental health specialist, and most importantly, mom of 2 wild little ones!
When I became a new mom, I thought I was completely prepared. I had read countless books, taken birth and newborn care classes, and had plenty of experience with babies through my friends and sisters.
But once motherhood began, I quickly realized there was so much I hadn’t been ready for. Especially, the emotional and psychological challenges.
Looking back, I realized all my preparation and even my prenatal care had been primarly focused on baby—how to help with sleep, feeding, tummy troubles, and diaper rashes. But I wasn’t equipped to handle this—the emotional rollercoaster, the mental exhaustion, and the sheer overwhelm of it all. That’s exactly why I created this course—to help other moms understand and anticipate the emotional and psychological shifts of early motherhood.
The truth is, even if you’re doing everything “right,” your baby will still cry—probably a lot. You’ll still face sleep deprivation and moments of complete overwhelm. But you can build resilience, develop strategies to support your mental well-being, and learn how to navigate these challenges with greater ease.
Now, I’m sharing everything I wish I had known when I first became a mother. My hope is that this knowledge helps make your journey into motherhood a little smoother and a lot more supported!

✺ FAQs ✺

This course was created with pregnant and postpartum birthing mothers in mind. While the postpartum period is often defined as the first 12 weeks after birth, many experts agree it extends well into the first year.
That said, if you’re beyond the first year, this course can still be incredibly valuable. It will help you better understand the changes in your maternal mind and body, making sense of what you’ve experienced and what you’re still adjusting to.
-
I know you’re busy—no question about it! That’s why this course is divided into bite-sized lessons (10 in total), each lasting about 5–10 minutes. Every lesson provides clear, actionable information that fits seamlessly into the course's overall context.
From start to finish, including exercises, the course takes about 2 hours to complete. However, you can revisit sections as often as you like and go through the material at your own pace. Many moms choose to work through the course in 10–20 minute sessions over a few weeks.
-
The course is video-based—but don’t worry, it’s not just boring PowerPoints or dull slides! The videos are conversational, with helpful visuals and occasional slides to clearly explain key points. Plus, there’s a printable PDF workbook included to support the course and give you space for notes.

This course is packed with the information I wish I’d been given during the perinatal period but didn’t have. I truly believe it will be just as impactful for you. You’ll gain new insights into how your mind and body function during early motherhood, helping you make sense of your feelings and start managing your emotions and reactions more effectively.
You’ll learn to recognize why you’re responding the way you are in any given moment, how to monitor your nervous system, catch unhelpful automatic thoughts, and regain control over your reactions to show up as the mom you want to be. While it won’t happen overnight, this course provides the foundational knowledge to empower you to identify the changes you need to make—and as you practice, it will become easier and more natural.
Although the focus is on the mind and body during early motherhood, the lessons extend beyond this stage, offering insights into how your nervous system works and how your emotions, thoughts, and behaviors are connected. This core knowledge will not only improve your mental well-being now but continue to benefit you for the rest of your life.
